This Week’s Tracks
This week’s prime tracks post is a little late as I’ve been busy doing the tourist thing with Ash and her sister. In any event, the theme this week is trance tracks with male vocals. I know what you are thinking… eww male vocals. I normally am not a big fan of trance songs with male vocals in them either, but occationally a song will come out that can change your mind.
- Paul Van Dyk Featuring Vega 4 - Time of Our Lives (Paul Van Dyk Club Mix): This is by far one of my all time favorite tracks. It just so happens that it is also a male vocal track. The track starts out with a steady driving bassline which clearly identifies it as a “PVD” track. An awesome electronic sounding synth is slowly faded into the track when the bassline goes quiet. I have probably listened to this part over 200 times - it is simply mindblowing at high volumes on a good set of speakers or headphones (I highly recommend this). It really is hard to describe, so I will just let you listen to it and experience it for yourself. The vocals come in at the buildup and are quite soothing if you listen to the lyrics. The track really lightens in mood when the chilled out synths come in. After the second buildup the track changes a bit when a piano is thrown into the mix and the vocals are changed up; this really adds to the uplifting feel of the song.
My only complaint with this song is that it ends somewhat abruptly and this can make it difficult to mix out of. For those of you who do not mix tracks, just listen and enjoy.
- Green Court Featuring Devision - Take My Breath Away (CJ Stone Remix): Here is an old classic with great male vocals. The “CJ Stone Remix” should tell you that this mix will have a pounding deep bassline. Pretty much every CJ Stone remix I have ever heard had a great bassline, this song is no exception. The synth is pretty simple, nothing too fancy, but it gets the job done. The vocals are really what make this track stand out in my mind. They are smooth and have a nice echoing filtered sound. I love how the buildup uses a breakbeat, it really fits the track and changes up the sound. Sometimes it’s difficult to find variety in trance; throwing in a breakbeat is a great way to accomplish this in my opinion. In any event, this is a great male vocal track and should be checked out.
I hope these tracks will show that male vocals in trance aren’t always bad. I’m sure there are a lot more amazing tracks out there with male vocals, but these are the two that stood out in my mind the past week. Feel free to name some other good tracks out there that fit this description. Until next week…. Happy listening.

Time of our lives was the song in some new car commercial…forget which one. How long has that song been out? couple of years at least and they are just now using it…lame. Its like C89.5 with “new” music. At least thats the way it used to be…its been a while since ive heard it.

Yea, I’ve noticed lots of electronic music being used now in stores and commercials. Even though it’s getting used commercially now it’s still a badass song in my book.
