Things That Go “Bump” in the Night
So last night ended up being quite interesting. Ash had gone to bed already and I was up watching Iron Chef reruns, it’s about 12:30. Ash comes into the living room and says that someone is outside on our deck and is like banging something making a lot of noise. This was news to me, because I hadn’t heard anything.
So I walk over to the bedroom and I see some guy pacing back and forth on our porch. He’s yelling “Come on Harry! Harry!” and hitting the railing of our deck with a hammer. To top it off is the fact that we normally sleep with the sliding door open because of the heat. So really the only thing keeping this stranger from walking into our apartment is a screen door, not a great security measure by any means.
Realizing that I don’t feel comfortable getting that close to the guy to close our sliding back door, Ash and I decide we should call the cops and see if they can take care of the situation. After calling the police and giving them the details we wait for them to show up. I must say, the cops did show up relatively quickly. Even though it felt like five minutes, I’m guessing it only took about two or three.
Two cops showed up and walked around the apartment for quite a while. I guess the guy left on his own because the cops said they didn’t find anyone. Apparently the guy had knocked on our neighbor’s backdoor (which is right next to ours, we share a porch) and asked to be let in because someone was chasing him or something to that effect. Our neighbor refused and then called the cops while the man paced around on the deck whacking things with his hammer.
I was really hoping the cops would be able to find this man and arrest him. It was rather unsatisfying to have the cops say that they couldn’t find him and so they were going to leave, although I’m glad it the situation ended with no drama; nothing was stolen and no body was hurt.
This was also the first time Ash and I had met both of our neighbors. They just moved in about a week or two ago and we had only seen them in passing until last night. It’s unfortunate we couldn’t meet under better circumstances, but maybe this will be the start of a more friendly relationship.

sounds like the guy you had on your deck was the pursuer. i bet your neighbors really did hide the other dude. i would be very wary of your neighbors…dont eat their jello.
