iCrew to R Place
![]()
What a long day yesterday was. I started the day in a bit of a funk that I just couldn’t seem to shake. Capstone class was a waste of time; I think I would have been much happier with a quick email to sum up everything he was going to say. It did however give my capstone group a few hours to work on our needs assessment stuff before heading down to Washington Mutual for a second meeting to clarify some issues.
After the meeting I decided to head back to campus and stick around because the iCrew had arranged a surprise dinner for Trotter’s birthday. When I say the iCrew, I really mean Jamie because she’s obsessed with birthdays. Beforehand I briefly thought about just going home, I was still in a crappy mood and I didn’t want that to put a damper on the birthday get-together. I decided to go anyway because what kind of friend just bails out on another’s birthday? That and I wanted to eat at P.F Chang’s for once.
I’m glad I ended up going because it was awesome to see everyone come together to surprise Trotter. Going out with everyone was fun and the food was great. I don’t know if it was the company or the food, maybe it was a combination of the two; whatever it was lifted my spirits a bit.
- Mango chicken = tasty, but I think I like the Malay Satay Hut’s version a little better
- Asian wrap thingies = yummy
- two types of rice = twice as good as one
- Beef something or other = yummy
- Slippery Noodles = hard to eat, but not bad
- Prawns or shrimp thingies = mouth watering
- Scallops =
- Fried bananas with coconut ice cream = holy crap good
- Chocolate Cake with raspberry sauce = happiness
- Asian Pear Mojito = mmm mmm good
- Green Tea drink in cool bamboo glass = a little sweet for my taste but drank it anyway
After all the food was gone the fortune cookies came out. Kat thought it would be a good idea to add the phrase “in bed” to the end of all of them making mine
YOU CAN ALWAYS TRUST YOUR FRIENDS in bed
Nice work Kat. There were actually some better ones but I don’t remember any of them. If any of you guys have yours still you should post them as comments.

Before heading back to the U-district via public transportation, an outdoor rendition of Happy Birthday was sung in front of Westlake Mall. On the way back Ryan and Jamie said their goodbyes as did David and Teresa, leaving Trotter, Kat, Tho, Trevor, and myself to figure out what to do next. We ended up cramming into Trotter’s studio for a while to let him drop off his stuff and just relax for a bit. I think everyone in the room learned not to let Trevor on any computer that isn’t his…
Without any real destination in mind we made our way towards The Ave. Of course Kat and I were itching to play pool, but I’m pretty sure we were the only ones. Trotter had coffee from Solstice in mind, so we walked down there only to find out it was already closed. What kind of place closes at like 9pm on a Thursday? Freakin’ lazy bastards.
I’ll spare you all the indecisive talk about what we should do and just say we ended up at a self proclaimed “very clean and friendly bar that welcomes all gay, lesbian, straight, and gay friendly people” called R Place. What a cool place! Three floors of club goodness. The bottom floor was kind of the standard bar, the bar along with a coat check, some tables, and the restrooms. Second floor is sports stuff, a red pool table and darts… pimp! The top floor is like the club floor complete with dance area and a DJ.
The atmosphere there was really great, everyone there seemed super friendly so that was cool. Kat and I missed our turn at the pool table while upstairs, but the guy playing let her put her name back at the top of the list anyway, you don’t get that at The Monkey. After a ruthless game of pool we joined everyone else upstairs.

It was interesting to watch the DJ mix because he was mixing hip hop with CD turntables. In fact, he was mixing with the same tables I have, so I know how hard it is to do. I’m used to hip hop DJ’s mixing with vinyl because most scratch and do a lot of other tricks, so this was a bit different, he was basically mixing it like trance. It was kind of cool though and it makes me want to try mixing hip hop.
Trotter and Trevor danced basically the whole night and seemed to be having a good time, so that was nice to see. I didn’t dance a whole lot, but the little dancing I did was fun :). Want to know what else is fun? Watching a guy dressed as a woman perform a lip sync and dance. Haha.
About 12:30 or so we started to head out. That’s when some unknown guy grabbed my ass TWICE! I didn’t see the culprit but I guess he couldn’t get enough and had to go for that second squeeze. That made me think of how different guys and girls are. I don’t think most girls would let any random guy get away with something like that, whereas I really didn’t give a shit. I’m more flattered that someone would want to grab my ass after doing so about 5 seconds ago. Maybe that’s the key, maybe you have to grab twice to assure the person they have a nice ass.
As with the night on Alki, responsible Tho ended up driving us home. I really hope you had a good time because it would suck to just hang around waiting to drive people home. Just know that it’s always appreciated and never expected.
All in all it turned out to be an awesome night. Going out with friends was just what I needed to break out of my somber mood, and in the end my original fortune from the fortune cookie was right. I could trust my friends to pick me up.

That’s awesome, Kevin. Sounds like you guys had a great night. I’m glad your spirits were able to lifted. I hate that feeling that you just can’t shake some days. I was so happy when I saw you come to the GA room to join us.
As for random person ass-grabbing, lol yeah, I probably would’ve punched someone, haha.
Anyhoo, nice.

Awesome description of the night, Kevin!
Glad you had fun — and slightly jealous that I didn’t get my ass grabbed by anyone!

Yeah, it was fun and quite a *new* experience for me, haha. Don’t worry about me having to drive you drunks all the time, I don’t really mind as long as my friends are safe, that is what matters. Plus I had lots of fun dancing and hanging out w/o drinking.

Tho: you rock!

Clarification: no random person ass-grabbing
And yea, Tho your comment made me feel warm and fuzzy.

Yep. R place was so much fun. Besides Kevin’s encounter w/ random ass grabbing, a guy also asked me for Trotter’s number!
