Firefox tips

After completely ruining my Firefox installation while trying to apply a custom skin I was searching for an extension called Clone Window. I just happened to stumble upon this site which has some tips on how to make Firefox startup and load pages faster.

I’ve made his recommended changes and Firefox seems to startup a bit faster, page load time feels snappier as well occasionally. It could all be placebo, but it’s worth a try if you have a few extra minutes.

Robot + Pool = Deep Green

While browsing slashdot I ran into this article about a pool playing robot. Pretty cool if you ask me.

As a side note… for a guy building a pool playing robot, he sure does have a piss-poor camera.

Now I know it can make a perfect shot everytime, and set up the cue ball for the next shot… but can it talk trash?

The New York Times has a pretty interesting article about using new technology to create more 3d sound. The new system can basically simulate a sound coming from any point in the room, making for a truely immersive experience. The demonstration room discussed in the article uses 304 individual speakers and 2 subwoofers in each wall; 8 P4 PC’s are used to process the signal.

Pretty amazing if you ask me. I’ll be taking donations until I have the funds necessary to purchase this system for my apartment…

Web Design + Usability + RSS = OMGWTFBBQ

So today at work I was reading about an RSS extension for Firefox. Basically it formats RSS feeds for you and bookmarks them so they are easily accessible. The one I chose to install and try out is called SAGE.
